The remains of one of the main fighters for the independence of Korea from the Japanese colonial yoke, Hon Bom Do, were returned to their homeland on the Independence Day of Korea on August 15. A special military plane with the remains of the national hero took off from the city of Kyzylorda in Kazakhstan. In the air defense identification zone of the Republic of Korea, the plane flew accompanied by six fighters. Thus, Hon Bom Do was given the highest honors. The ceremony in honor of the return of the remains was attended by the President of the country Moon Jae In with his wife, the Minister of Defense and other dignitaries. After a two-day memorial service, both online and offline, Hong Bom Do's remains were buried at the National Cemetery in Daejeon City.

Hon Bom Do was born in Pyongyang in 1868. Life circumstances forced him to work as a hunter, thanks to which he honed his shooting skills, which were useful to him later. In 1907, Hon Bom Do found himself at the center of the Eibyon guerrilla movement, which then unfolded throughout the country. After establishing a Japanese protectorate over Korea in 1910, he fled to Manchuria. In 1919, Hon Bom Do became one of the commanders of the Independence Army, which fought against the Japanese invader. Under his leadership, operations were carried out to attack the Japanese enemy in Korea. So, in 1920, at the Battle of Fenudun, Hon Bom Do, without the proper equipment and a large detachment, was able to kill 120 well-armed Japanese soldiers. In 1921, he fled to the Soviet Far East, fleeing the persecution of the Japanese colonialists. In 1937, along with other ethnic Koreans, Hon Bom Do was exiled to Kazakhstan. He lived in the Kyzylorda region, where he died in 1943 at the age of 75, two years before the liberation of Korea.

Plaque honoring General Hong is displayed on General Hong Beom-do Street in Kyzylorda, Kazakhstan.
