The city of Venice is now preparing for its 1600th foundation day. With the outbreak of COIVD-19 Italy has had the worst damage of losing many people during the very beginning of the pandemic. As a way of controlling the risk of spreading the virus, Italy has to close its borders for tourists following the lockdown process. However, in the middle of 2021, many places of the country including the city of Venice have reopened for the public providing a relaxing, and healing time for its citizens. Moreover, as Venice city is approaching its 1600th birthday many events are expected to be held highlighting the history and the uniqueness of the city.

Most significantly, Professor Tiziana Lippiello, the rector of the Ca’Foscari University of Venice Italy, one of the member universities of Silk- Road Universities Network (SUN) invited the SUN secretariat to mark this important milestone by organizing various events along with the rest of the member universities. The SUN secretariat and the Ca’Foscari University team met virtually last Tuesday to discuss further details of the events.

“It is an honor to join the celebrations of 1600th birthday of Venice City. And we invite all of our member universities to join this wonderful occasion not only just to celebrate the city of Venice but also to integrate our partnerships with each city and universities.” Prof. Dr. Sungdon Hwang, the secretary-general of the SUN stated during the meeting.

We will soon announce the events that we are currently planning to celebrate the foundation day of Venice City and we hope many of you will actively participate in these events.
