The Secretariat of Silk-road Universities Network (SUN) and the International Association of Silk -road Studies (IASS) which is an academic body of SUN are jointly preparing for the launch of the ‘Global Silk Road Mapping Initiative.’ We are writing to request the involvement of your institution in our cause.
The Silk Road is a historically significant concept that carved the way for the advancement of human civilization. As a collective asset of humankind, it marks the birth of cooperative exchange and also serves as a vital medium for global prosperity. However, various socioeconomic factors and language barriers stand in the way of active communication between countries and universities that possess valuable data on the Silk Road. The unfortunate failure of these historical documents and research materials to be shared appropriately has caused the study of the Silk Road to swiftly lose its validity.
Accordingly, SUN and IASS would like to propose the Global Silk Road Mapping Initiative, which aims to collect and manage historical documents, geographic texts, and maps in order to reinterpret the Silk Road within a modern context. Data compiled under this Initiative will be made available to all participants as well as the public through an online information system.
